![]() ![]() Anticipating a slow mobilization of Tsarist troops and resources, it merely deployed one Army to protect East Prussia against a Russian invasion. According to the Schlieffen Plan, the German supreme command had committed its main military forces against Belgium and France. The Battle of Tannenberg (26–30 August 1914) was a pivotal moment in the initial stages of the First World War. Footnote 8 And although cultural historians and scholars of art history have written extensively about the impressive Tannenberg memorial that was built in the late 1920s, we are still lacking a comprehensive and thoroughly researched analysis of the role of the battle in German collective memory, its narrative articulation, and literary and mythical resonance. Footnote 7 Scholarly books on Paul von Hindenburg refer to the events in August 1914 as a major turning point in his life and the beginning of his rise to popularity, but while the Hindenburg cult and the Tannenberg myth are closely related, they are by no means identical. Footnote 6 Indeed, most studies on the myth and legacy of Tannenberg focus on the first Battle of Tannenberg in 1410 which resulted in the momentous defeat of the Teutonic Knights at the hands of Polish-Lithuanian forces. Footnote 5 It has certainly attracted much less scholarly attention. Stefan Goebel has described the Battle of Tannenberg in late August 1914 as ‘the most powerful German myth of the war’, but it seems that in the long term the victory in East Prussia never reached the same popularity and breadth of appeal as Langemarck (November 1914) and Verdun (February to December 1916) on the Western front. Footnote 4 Arguably, a similar tendency to favour narratives of tragic loss and heroic resistance over stories of complete and utter triumph can be detected in the case of the German battle myths of the First World War. While these battles have more recently come to exemplify the futility of war, originally they were often utilized to provide glorious examples of patriotism, loyalty and the readiness to make sacrifices in the name of the nation. In Canada, Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele are widely remembered – tactical victories, it is true, but like the French defensive success at Verdun achieved at a very high cost. With regard to the First World War, it also seems that failed campaigns have had a more powerful and enduring grip on the public imagination and national consciousness: Gallipoli, the Somme and Caporetto are some of the most important lieux de mémoire in Australia, Britain and Italy. In some cases, these works conveyed critical and pacifist messages: Arnold Zweig’s novel Erziehung vor Verdun and the Vietnam War film Hamburger Hill are typical examples. Lord Tennyson immortalized the ill-fated Battle of Balaclava in his ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’, while the Battles of the Alamo and of Dien Bien Phu were made into films. Footnote 3 Starting with Herodotus, the last stand of the Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae has been dramatized by numerous eminent writers and poets, including Lord Byron, A.E. ![]() Footnote 2 This does not apply to victorious operations only: the tragedy of defeat and the self-denying heroism of the defenders against overwhelming forces have fascinated as well – and quite possibly even more. Footnote 1 From the Siege of Troy and the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest to Agincourt, Waterloo and D-Day, military campaigns have captured the imagination of subsequent generations, literary circles, artists and, more recently, filmmakers. ![]() Major wars and battles play an important role in national thought and collective memory. ![]()

Therefore, the identification of RTKs in multiple organisms, the documentation of their characteristics, and the collection of related information would be very useful. Currently, there is no available database for RTKs providing information about their function, expression, and interactions. Although they are very important for proper cell function, they have been experimentally studied in a limited range of eukaryotic species. Mutations in RTKs have been associated with different types of cancers and other diseases. They control many vital cellular functions and are involved in the regulation of complex signaling networks. We would like to address enzymes that play key roles in regulating cellular processes as part of enzyme-linked receptors, enzymes functioning in post-translational modifications, and enzymes functioning through other controlling and regulatory mechanisms acting on molecular processes and cellular signaling. Moreover, regulatory enzymes are frequently subject to somatic mutations, most often innocuous, but some mutations elicit functional changes that significantly alter enzymatic activity and ligand binding, affecting health as well as clinical treatment with pharmaceuticals. Because of their key biochemical roles and localized binding sites for small molecules and macromolecules, enzymes are often targets of inhibitor drugs in medicine and as tools for probing function. In this Special Issue, we aim to attract articles from a wide scope of studies that explore, e.g., the structure, biochemical, and biological consequences of enzyme functions in health, disease, and also biotechnological applications. Enzymes play a large variety of essential roles in an organism, facilitating the chemical reactions necessary for life’s processes. ![]() ![]() Browse by alphabetical listing, by style, by author or by popularity. The format is designed for high-resolution cameras and digital cameras. The XQD forma was first announced in November 2010 by SanDisk, Sony, and Nikon, and was immediately picked up by the CFA for development. Among them, the H-type xD card is the fastest, and its reading and writing speed is about 2 times faster than the standard type and three times faster than the M type. The three types are only different in technology and chip, so the speed is also different. After 2003, digital cameras produced by Fuji and Olympus all used xD memory cards as media.Īt present, there are three types of xD cards commonly available in the market: standard type, M type, and H type. In addition, Sony has also launched expanded and upgraded products of Memory Stick, including MS PRO, MS Duo, MS PRO Duo, MS Micro (M2), and Compact Vault. However, because Sony's digital product line is very rich, the Memory Stick is popularized rapidly and is widely used. It is only used in Sony's digital products. MS ( Memory Stick) is a memory card product introduced by Sony in 1999. Note: Micro SD card is also called TF card (TransFLash). ![]() ![]() These cards can be read by the SD card slot if they are sleeved with adapter. In addition to ordinary SD cards, there are smaller Mini SD cards and Micro SD cards. Therefore, new SDHC and SDXC standards have been formulated to make the maximum capacity of SD cards up to 2TB. The upper limit of the standard capacity of SD cards is only 2GB, which is not enough to cope with the increasing capacity requirements. The SD slot can accept the MMC card, while the MMC slot can't read SD card. The SD card is developed based on the MultiMedia card (MMC) format, and the size is similar to the MMC card, but it is 0.7mm thicker than the MMC card to accommodate a larger capacity storage unit. It was jointly developed by Japan's Matsushita, Toshiba and the US SanDisk in August 1999. SD card (Secure Digital Memory Card) is currently the most widely used memory card. SD card is also developed on the base of MMC, so MMC card can be read by SD slot. It later derived models such as RS-MMC, MMC Plus, and MMC Mobile. Besides, most other types of memory cards can be used on the CF card slot through the adapter, including SD cards, MMC cards, Memory Stick Duo, xD cards, SmartMedia cards, etc. The latter is twice as thick as the former.ĬF I card slot does not support CF II card, while CF II card slot is backward compatible with CF I card and supports MicroDrives. The CF card is divided into CF I and CF II. It has advantages like large storage capacity, low cost, and good compatibility. The CF card is one of the longest-standing memory cards on the market. Therefore, CF card has a solid foundation. It's supported by CFA (CompactFlash Association), which already has members like Canon, LG, Epson, Casio, Minolta, Nikon, Kodak, NEC, Polaroid, Panasonic Psion, HP and many other OEM users and partners. The CF card (Compact Flash) was first launched by SanDisk in 1994. In this post, I will introduce them to you. The types of memory cards currently available on the market include SD, TF, CF, MMC, MS, xD, etc. Before you buy a memory card for digital products, you must first figure out the type of memory card you need.
